Marrakech airport to the city centre: taxi, bus or transfer?
Compare bus 19, the prepaid taxi system and hotel transfers, with published official fares and practical advice for reaching a riad.
Guide checked on 13 September 2026. Prices, opening times and availability can change; confirm them on the official website before booking.
Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) is close to the city, but “city centre” can mean a vehicle-accessible Gueliz avenue or a Medina lane no car can enter. The best transport therefore depends less on distance than on the final kilometre.
The short answer
- Low budget and light luggage: bus 19, after confirming the route and stop that day.
- Gueliz or Hivernage: an official prepaid taxi is straightforward when the hotel has road access.
- A riad in the Medina: a riad-arranged transfer when the driver or escort takes you from drop-off to the door.
- Late arrival, children or substantial luggage: a confirmed transfer or prepaid taxi with a precise meeting point.
Bus 19: the lower-cost option
At our check, the official Visit Marrakech website listed service from 6:00 am to 9:30 pm, every 20 minutes, at MAD 30 per journey. Morocco’s airport authority confirms a city–airport shuttle every twenty minutes, without giving the same detailed timetable on its page.
Choose the bus when travelling light and when its stop genuinely helps. Before boarding, ask the driver or information point whether the route and fare are unchanged. For a riad deep inside the Medina, include the final walk and avoid this option unless the drop-off is clear.
Official taxi: convenient and prepaid
ONDA introduced a pre-order counter at the airport: passengers choose a destination, pay by card or cash, receive a receipt and then obtain a ticket assigning a taxi. Destination-based prices are displayed in the official area.
The public official sources do not fully align on the amount. Visit Marrakech listed MAD 70 by day and MAD 100 at night for an airport–centre journey, while ONDA directs passengers to the posted price for each destination. Treat the counter tariff and receipt on arrival as authoritative rather than a figure copied from an older guide.
Do not follow an informal solicitation before identifying the official counter and queue. Show the hotel name, district and drop-off point, not merely “Medina”.
Accommodation transfer: simplest for a riad
A transfer can cost more than the bus or official taxi, but solves the main problem: locating the final lane. Ask in writing for:
- the complete price and currency;
- whether payment is in advance or on arrival;
- the name that will be displayed;
- a reachable number in case of delay;
- whether someone escorts the luggage to the riad door.
“Airport pick-up” alone does not guarantee that last stage. To choose the right area before arranging transport, see Medina or Gueliz.
How much time to allow
The road distance is short, but traffic, counter queues and Medina access change the duration. Do not schedule a non-refundable booking immediately after landing. For the return flight, ask the accommodation for a departure time that accounts for the airline’s procedures and traffic, then reconfirm the vehicle the day before.
Advice by area
Gueliz: provide the hotel name and address; drop-off is generally direct. Hivernage: the same applies, but name the property because large hotels are spread out. Medina: use a gate, square or car park as the drop-off and request an escort. Palmeraie: obtain a price for this more distant zone before departure.
