Understand the city before choosing
Marrakech places a dense, walkable old city beside modern districts with wider streets. The Medina keeps the souks, palaces and Jemaa el-Fna close, but taxis cannot always reach a riad’s door. Gueliz makes car access and contemporary evenings easier; Hivernage favours larger hotels and more space.
Our Where to stay in Marrakech guide explains those trade-offs, while Medina or Gueliz helps with the two choices travellers most often compare.
Build a three-day stay
A first day can combine the Medina’s main historical sights without crossing the city. Day two works well around Majorelle and Gueliz; day three should be more flexible, allowing time for gardens, a hammam, cooking or a short excursion. Our three-day itinerary groups visits geographically to reduce transfers.
Arrive without improvising
The airport is close to the city, but the final approach to a riad may be on foot. Keep the address in French or Arabic, the accommodation’s phone number and an accessible drop-off point. The airport-to-centre guide compares the shuttle bus, prepaid taxi and arranged transfer.
